AirGuns Advanced

Introduction

This site features information on Airguns, and focuses on pistols that are replicas of popular firearms. My Airguns shoot steel or lead shot only...   NO AIRSOFT guns.

There are BB guns that shoot well over 1000 fps. Some shoot even higher than that.

Example: The Crosman MSR77NP pretty much looks like a classic M16 but is in fact a Nitro Piston break barrel pellet rifle able to shoot .177 caliber pellets at 1200 fps. A BB GUN CAN KILL. WEAR EYE PROTECTION. SHOOT SAFE ALWAYS. KNOW YOUR TARGET. KNOW YOUR WEAPON.

My Collection: Pistol:  KWC Tanfoglio WITNESS 1911 CO2 BB PistolMy Rating: **** _  4 of 5

This is my favorite pistol, bar none. It is very realistic to a real 1911 A1 and feels great in the hand. The weight and balance is perfect for me. Even the plastic grips feel good. The Tanfoglio CO2 full-blowback BB gun will thrill air gun enthusiasts who are looking for an authentic 1911 replica. This gun has a crisp recoil when fired. The gun features a full metal body with functional slide and an 18rd magazine.
It is a beauty to behold and it is my first pistol collected.

The Cybergun Tanfoglio Witness 1911 is made in Taiwan by KWC. Although this all metal airgun carries the licensed trademarks for the Tanfoglio Witness, it is actually an excellent replica of the Colt 1911A1. Since Cybergun also has a license to use Colt trademarks, it seems strange that this gun was not marketed under the Colt name. Interestingly, Cybergun also markets an all plastic air pistol by the same name that is made in Taiwan by Wingun. The fit and finish of the Witness 1911 are superb. Despite being made from cast metal, there are no visible seams on this gun. Among steel BB shooting airguns, the Cybergun Witness 1911 is the most faithful replica of a Colt 1911A1 produced to date (right down to the lanyard loop and Parkerized-looking finish). All controls function just as they do on the firearm and takedown is nearly the same. The blowback action on the Witness 1911 is impressive and the slide locks back on the last shot. The trade-off for this blowback performance is a comparatively low muzzle velocity.

However, the Witness 1911 manages more than 60 good shots from each CO2 cylinder. The single-action trigger on the Witness 1911 is excellent. It has a small amount of take-up in the first stage and a light (2.5 lb) and crisp second stage. The non-adjustable sights produce a good sight picture but the gun shoots high (POI about 3/4" above POA). The Tanfoglio Witness 1911 has a removable magazine that contains the BB magazine, the CO2 cartridge, and the gas valve. BBs are loaded through the opening just above the tip of the spring follower when it is held all the way down. The follower must be released after loading in order for BBs to feed properly. The piercing screw for the CO2 cylinder requires the use of a 1/4" hex key (supplied). Although the muzzle velocity of the Witness 1911 is only 308 fps, the shot-to-shot variation in velocity is impressively low. Unfortunately, this excellent consistency in muzzle velocity does not translate to good accuracy. The accuracy of the Witness 1911 is rated as only fair, producing shot groups a little under 1" with Daisy and Crosman BBs and groups of 2" or more with RWS and Avanti BBs.

Four different brands of BBs I tested with the Tanfoglio Witness 1911. The results for firing five-shot groups from 15' using a bench and open sights with Crosman Copperhead BBs (0.81"), Daisy Avanti BBs (2.02"), Daisy Precision Max BBs (0.88"), and RWS Match Grade BBs (2.00"). Crosman Copperhead BBs produced the best results. All measurements are center-to-center.

Takedown: The Tanfoglio Witness 1911 breaks down in a similar fashion to the firearm. To break down the 1911, first remove the magazine. Push the slide back until the slide stop is aligned with the takedown notch on the slide. Push the slide stop all the way out. The slide can now be taken off the frame.

CO2-powered replicas made in Taiwan by KWC and distributed world-wide by Cybergun (France). The US importer is Palco Sports.

My Collection: Pistol: Browing Buck Mark Spring-pistol Pellet Pistol

My Rating: ** _ 3 of 5

The Browning Buck Mark URX has a single-stroke cocking mechanism with break barrel action. This pistol shoots 320 FPS to 360 fps and has an automatic safety. The ergonomic ambidextrous grips help the user to feel comfortable while shooting this lightweight pistol.

Caliber: .177

Action: Break Barrel

Capacity: 1

Barrel Length: 5.25

Brand: Browning

Velocity: 320 fps

Velocity with HyperMax Pellet: 360 fps

Safety Type: Automatic

Rear Sight Type: Adjustable

Front Sight Type: Fixed

Barrel Type: Rifled

Cocking Effort: 19.8

Trigger Pull: 5.75

Ammo Type: Pellet

I stumbled on to a air pistol that simply surprises me, and the UmarexUSA Browning Buck Mark URX is it.

The Buck Mark URX is a break-barrel, spring-piston, .177 caliber air pistol that looks like the powder burning Buck Mark URX offered by Browning. The Buck Mark air pistol stretches just one foot from end to end and weighs 1 lb. 12 oz.

The Buck Mark URX is made of plastic and metal and nicely finished in matte black. At the aft you’ll find a false “slide” is made of metal, while the pistol grip below it is a very comfortable ambidextrous black polymer with molded-in finger indentations. At the juncture of the pistol grip and the trigger guard there is an inoperable button safety, molded in to look like the firearm. A black trigger guard surrounds a black non-adjustable trigger.

Forward of the trigger guard is the barrel which is black polymer molded around an inner metal barrel. The cocking linkage is just barely visible below the barrel. At the end of the barrel is a black blade type front sight. Moving back along the barrel, the top of the receiver has a Picatinny rail suitable for mounting a red dot. At the aft end of the Weaver rail is a notch type rear sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation. The only other feature of consequence is a lever-type safety on the left side of the receiver just above the pistol grip.

To ready the Buck Mark URX for shooting, grasp the end of the barrel and pull it down and back until it latches. This requires just under 20 lbs. of effort, breaks open the breech for loading, and activates the automatic safety. Insert a .177 pellet into the breech and return the barrel to its original position. Take aim, flick off the safety, and squeeze the trigger.

There appears to be just one stage to the trigger and at about 6 lbs of pressure, the shot goes off. Frankly, the trigger pull doesn’t feel that hard to me. It feels more like 4 lbs., and I had no problem shooting with it.

Shooting the Buck Mark URX is a blast. At ten yards, I put five pellets into a group that measured 1.25 inches from edge to edge. This is the perfect air pistol for plinking, for knocking soda cans off a fence rail, for blasting a dollar store bag of plastic dinosaurs in front of cardboard box, or for assassinating animal crackers. It’s easy to cock, the recoil is manageable, and report is surprisingly quiet. For the price paid this pistol has to rate  a 3 of 5. It is just a fun but not too serious gun. It does look cool but at the same time it looks cheap.

Browning

Gun making ran in the family of John Moses Browning, as his father was a gunsmith. As a young boy, he spent his time in his father's workshop and knew the name of every part of a gun before he could read. At the age of 23, John Moses lodged his first patent, for the "J.M. Browning Single Shot Rifle". Over the years, Browning granted licenses to several manufacturers for dozens of inventions and firearms developed by him. It's no exaggeration to say that he invented everything in the field of firearms. What is more, it should be noted that the vast majority of his technological innovations have not been able to be bettered or replaced since the beginning of this century, a clear demonstration of the level of perfection achieved.

Umarex USA is proud to have earned Browning's trust in producing its first pellet pistol, the Browning 800 Mag Air Gun.
